“And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 7:18
The flood of Noah is a prefigurement of the cross. 1 Pet 3:19-22. The flood destroyed all life on earth except the fish. The cross of Christ destroyed the collective Old Man, Adam and all his progeny. Rom 6:6. The only ones saved thru the flood were those who followed Noah believing by faith his foolish message, those who were in the ark. The only ones saved from the cross are those who believe into Christ, today’s Ark of salvation.
The same cross destroys the unbeliever but raises and lifts the believer into Christ and to His heavenly position. 1 Cor 1:18; Eph 2:6. See the two thieves on either side of Jesus at Calvary, one an unbeliever and one a believer, both representing all mankind.
The above verse shows us that thru our participation with Christ in the killing power of the cross brought to us through the Spirit of Jesus Christ, we are simultaneously raised to the top of Heaven (Mt Ararat prefiguratively). As we die, we rise. As we go down in humility, we are exalted up to glory. The way up is down. We are as Martin Luther said, “Dying upward.”
The same flood that prevails over all the most arrogant and highest mountains of people and destroys them, lifts the meek and lowly upward daily toward God. Praise Him! He is today’s Ark.
